I bought this as a housewarming/Xmas present for a friend. It is a nice quality for how little the book cost me. The leather doesn't feel cheap or plastic-like, and the inserts are all professional looking. This book is much more contemporary and stylish than the typical kitchen recipe binder. I love that it comes with its own index cards and plastic pages that they fit right into. I'm tempted to keep it for myself, but I wouldn't mind purchasing it again. :)

This will be a long review, in order to give you the most information I can - my apologies in advance.

The book is a 3 ring binder, and seems quite sturdy. I don't think it will fall apart anytime soon. The book also opens nice and flat for easy viewing. It comes with black dividers headed as follows:
1. Appetizers
2. Soups and Salads
3. Sauces, Dressings
4. Breads, Grains
5. Dairy, Eggs
6. Fruits, Vegetables
7. Pasta
8. Poultry
9. Seafood
10. Meats
11. Desserts
12. Beverages

The 4x6 recipe cards (white with black ink) come already inserted into their plastic sleeves, and are lined on both sides. The cards aren't busy, which I like as it makes it easier to read what I've written on them. There's LOTS of room for writing, too. The sleeves are designed for the cards to be inserted on the inside, so no real chance of them slipping out unintentionally.
You get twenty plastic "pages" with cards inserted, and twenty more empty. It looks as if the book will easily hold twenty more, making a total of 120 recipes (but you may want to check my math!).

I wish the books came in different solid colors, as I plan to get a few more. Then I will use one for meals, one for cookies, one for other baking, and so on. You would be limited only by your imagination. I'm considering the other options available, but I think I prefer the solid color, aesthetically. The book sits on a shelf with my other cookbooks, making it easily accesible, especially compared with the recipe box I used to use.

Oh- and there is a spot on the front of the book for a card with an initial on it. The cards are provided in the book, sans X and Z. You could use your last name--I believe that's the intent, or the first letter of the book's contents (C is for cookie!)

I looked for a long time before deciding on this recipe book, and I am very happy with it. One of our daughters is getting married this spring, and I plan to buy her several of these as part of her shower gift. Amazon sells extra palstic sleeves for it (you can get 20 for $7.95, or a 3 pack of 20 for $12.67!), and a reasonable facsimile of the cards, too (40 cards for $8.17, at this writing).

All in all a great purchase, and once again, kudos to Amazon!

i have been looking all over for a cookbook that i could put my write my own and put them in with out have to buy a 3 ring binder that was too big for my kitchen. awesome book. will get one as a gift soon.
